Billboard & Hoarding Advertising in India

Hoardings are the backbone of outdoor advertising in India: a large printed display on a road your audience already uses every day. HoardSpace lists verified sites with photographs, exact dimensions, lighting type and a published monthly rate, so you can judge a site before speaking to anyone.

What makes one hoarding worth more than another

Two hoardings of identical size on the same road can differ several times over in price, and the reasons are consistent enough to plan around:

  • Approach and angle. A site facing oncoming traffic head-on is read for far longer than one parallel to the road, which drivers see edge-on. This matters more than raw size.
  • Traffic composition, not just volume. A road carrying the audience you want at commuting speed beats a busier road carrying the wrong audience.
  • Obstruction. Trees, flyover pillars, other structures and newer signage nearby all eat into the seconds a site actually gets.
  • Lighting. A non-lit site stops working at dusk. On a corridor with heavy evening traffic, that is half the audience.
  • Clutter. A site standing alone holds attention; one in a row of six competes with five other brands for the same glance.

Every listing on HoardSpace carries photographs taken at the site, so the approach, angle and surrounding clutter are things you can check rather than take on trust.

Measured from listings currently live on HoardSpace, not an industry estimate. What a specific site costs depends on:

  • City and the specific road or junction
  • Display size in square feet
  • Lighting — non-lit, front-lit or back-lit
  • Booking duration, and whether the site is committed in peak season
  • Printing and mounting, charged separately per creative

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a billboard and a hoarding?
In India the two words describe the same thing: a large printed display mounted beside a road. 'Hoarding' is the common Indian term and 'billboard' the American one, and the industry uses them interchangeably. You will see both on HoardSpace listings, and searching for either returns the same inventory.
What sizes do billboards come in?
There is no fixed catalogue of sizes in India — displays are built to the site. Every HoardSpace listing states its exact width and height in feet, and you can filter by size range, because a 20×10 site on a busy junction and a 40×20 site on an outer road serve very different briefs.
What does front-lit, back-lit and non-lit mean?
Lighting decides whether a site works after dark. A front-lit hoarding is illuminated by lamps mounted in front of the display; a back-lit one is lit from behind through a translucent flex, which reads more cleanly at night and costs more; a non-lit site is only visible in daylight. If a meaningful share of your audience passes the site in the evening, lighting is worth paying for.
Are printing and mounting included in the monthly rate?
No. For static hoardings the monthly rate covers the site itself; printing the flex and mounting it are charged separately, because they depend on the size of the display and are a one-time cost per creative rather than a monthly one. Digital and transit placements do not carry these charges, since no printed media is produced for them.
How far in advance should I book a hoarding?
Availability is site-specific and shown on each listing. Prime junction sites in larger cities are usually committed further ahead than roadside inventory on secondary stretches, and festival periods tighten availability everywhere. If your campaign has fixed dates, check availability on the listing before building the plan around a particular site.

  • Can I advertise on a hoarding in more than one city at once?
Yes. Because every site is listed with its own rate and availability, a multi-city plan is assembled the same way a single booking is — shortlist sites across cities, compare them together, and book the set you want. There is no separate process for a national campaign.
